    Saturday Afternoon Studio: Dinosaur Terrariums
    Roll up your sleeves and get ready for hands-on art adventures this winter! Designed for children ages 7-11, the Benton’s Saturday Afternoon Studio sessions feature guided tours of current exhibitions and hands-on art making fun.

    Register early to secure your preferred dates; please contact Curator of Education, Mollie Sixsmith: mollie.sixsmith@uconn.edu.

    Dinosaur Terrariums
    $15 per student

    Students will step into the role of a paleontologist as they explore fossils and dinosaur artwork in the special exhibition Seeing Truth: Art, Science, Museums and Making Knowledge. Afterwards, students will sculpt dinosaurs out of clay and construct their own terrarium habitat for their creatures.

    The Museum’s homeschool programs, designed for aspiring artists ages 6-12, are the perfect opportunity to view special exhibitions, try new art techniques, and explore creative writing activities.

    Build-a-Bird: Paper Weaving
    $10 per student

    After drawing inspiration from birds and other creatures in the Celebrating Art by Women exhibition, students will try their hand at paper weaving to create their own avian artwork.

    Join Benton educators for an interactive two-part workshop exploring Encounters with the Collection: Celebrating Art by Women. Learn more about self-portraits in the exhibition through close looking and discussion. Then try your hand at designing a split self-portrait; beginner and experienced artists welcome. Materials kit available at the front desk one week before the program. Free for UConn students and Museum members, $5 for non-members.

    April Vacation Program for Children
    Celebrate the colors of spring and get ready for hands-on art making fun!

    These workshops, designed for children ages 6-11, include a guided eye-spy tour, gallery scavenger hunt, and an art project.

    Space is limited for each session and
    reservations are required; please contact: Mollie Sixsmith, Curator of Education, at 860-486-1711 or email mollie.sixsmith@uconn.edu to reserve your place.

    $15 per student/class.


    SKETCH IT: LANDSCAPE PASTELS
    Step into the role of an artist and sketch en plein air (outdoors) in the museum’s sculpture garden with both chalk and oil pastels. After learning about light, color, and sketching from nature, students will create original works of art which will be transformed into a 3-D landscape collage.
