Looking for something new to do this summer? The Museum’s Summer Art Academy is the perfect opportunity for students ages 5-11 to explore special exhibitions, experiment with hands-on art techniques, and make new friends. Students will stretch their imaginations as they think critically, creatively, and collaboratively about art!

Space is limited for each session and reservations are required; please contact the Curator of Education at 860-486-1711 or email to reserve your place.
Cost per session: $150 museum members/$160 non-members.  Become a member and save on all children's programs.

Nature Safari: Animals in Art (ages 5-7)
Monday, June 24–Friday, June 28

Get ready for hands-on art making fun! After daily eye-spy tours, students will learn about different habitats and the animals who call those places home. Students will stretch their imaginations as they design animal collages, sculpt creatures out of clay, and paint with acrylics.

Nature Close Up: Painting, Printing & Pastels (ages 8-11)

Monday, July 8–Friday, July 12

Students will examine nature from multiple perspectives (ever wonder what a bug’s eye or bird’s eye view is like?) as they paint with brushes, rollers, pipettes, and even toothbrushes. A variety of pastel and printing projects will also be completed outdoors in the garden.

Wild Art: Bubbles and Brushes (ages 5-7)

Monday, July 15–Friday, July 19

Have you ever painted with your toothbrush? Or made a print with rainbow bubbles? During this wild and wacky session, students will get messy as they paint and print with unusual items like fish, foil, toothbrushes, bubbles, wands, and even their fingers!

Wild Woods: Magical Creatures & Mythical Beasts (ages 8-11)

Monday, July 22–Friday, July 26
Enter a magical and artistic realm of hard-to-find creatures! Students will explore myths and legends and get creative as they design life-size yeti, sculpt Loch Ness monsters, create unicorn collages, and more.
