John O’Donnell, Associate Professor of Printmaking at UConn, will give a talk about his artistic research in conjunction with the 2023 Studio Art Faculty Exhibition.

Professor O’Donnell is a printmaker and new media artist who utilizes appropriated images and objects relating to art history, popular media and consumer culture to create rough-hewn assemblages. This collage sensibility reflects temporary solutions and failed ambitions within a culture saturated with irony and perpetual innuendo. O’Donnell has performed at venues across the US and mounted solo exhibitions at the New Britain Museum of American Art; Art Space, New Haven; New Bedford Museum of Art, New Bedford, MA; and Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH, among others. Recent residencies include ChaNorth, Pine Plains, NY; Flowerbox Projects, Miami, FL; and Blue House Gallery, Dayton, OH.

Theme: Spooky Watercolors

$10 per student

After a wild and wacky scavenger hunt in the galleries, students will use watercolors, black glue, and mixed media to design and create their own creepy-crawly painting.

Janet L. Pritchard, Professor of Photography at UConn, will give a talk about her artistic research in conjunction with the 2023 Studio Art Faculty Exhibition.

Professor Pritchard’s photographs have appeared in FlakPhoto Projects, Fine Art Photography Daily, Fraction Magazine, LensCulture, Lenscratch, The Photo Review, and View Camera Magazine, among others. Her awards and fellowships include a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Photography, a Jay and Deborah Last Fellowships at the American Antiquarian Society, and a National Endowment for the Arts Summer Institute Fellowship at the Hermon Dunlap Smith Center for the History of Cartography at the Newberry Library in Chicago. Her Artist-in-Residence awards include the Institute for Electronic Arts, Jentel Foundation, Millay Colony for the Arts, Ucross Foundation, and Vindolanda Trust, UK.
