Jonathan
Larry Wasiele, 1995.
Bronze.
Wasiele is a Connecticut portraitist who generally works in oils. His favorite portraits are ones he had created of animals. In order to create this statue, a mold of the dog was carved from 2 ½ foot thick Styrofoam, plaster was hand thrown and molded onto it, and then bronze was filled into the mold.
This is a statue of Jonathan the Husky, UConn’s mascot, and is a popular attraction and photographic opportunity to visitors on campus. Students rub the nose for good luck.
