Since the William Benton Museum of Art’s establishment in 1966, generous donors have helped build our collection through gifts of art. Beginning with UConn President Charles Lewis Beach’s founding gift of more than 70 works, the support of benefactors has provided the campus community and Connecticut residents with access to a collection that now exceeds 7,500 objects. To celebrate the Benton’s 60th anniversary in 2026, this exhibition presents notable gifts received over the past ten years.

The exhibition features approximately fifty works of art in a wide variety of media and styles. Visitors will encounter large-scale drawing, abstract painting, portraiture, photography, assemblage, and sculpture in bronze, wood, and mixed media. These works span the globe and range from the 17th century to the present. Each new addition to the collection expands cross-cultural and historical connections, creating new opportunities to engage with original works of art through exhibitions, class visits, and our online collection database.
